
Twenty years ago, Porto de Galinhas was just a simple fishing village on the outskirts of Recife. A place of wild and unspoiled nature, beautiful coconut trees, natural pools of clear water, narrow sandy streets. Today, the village, which is part of the city of Ipojuca, receives half a million tourists a year.

Activities
It is easy to find tourists practicing surf, stand up paddle or kite surf in Maracaípe; kayaking, jet skiing or going on a banana boat in Muro Alto beaches and diving in the natural pools. If you dive, there are beautiful ship wreck areas in Porto de Galinhas.

Rich in seafood, the cuisine of Porto de Galinhas is prepared with native ingredients combined in multiple ways, from simple fried fish to sophisticated international dishes. In Porto de Galinhas you will find good restaurants, bars and snack bars.
Mangrove
There are almost 60 km of this vegetation that gets denser in the beaches of Pontal de Maracaípe and Camboa. You can have access to the mangrove by kayak, raft or on foot.
Hippocampus Project
The Hippocampus Project (biology, cultivation and preservation of Brazilian seahorses) is a pioneer in Brazil and struggles for the preservation of the species in Porto de Galinhas. The Project also develops environmental education work with local communities and tourists.
Eco Associados
The organization monitors the life of sea turtles in 12 km of beaches in the Ipojuca city and is also active in theare as of conservation and environmental education. The hatching occurs in the months from December through February, during which the region becomes a true turtle nursery and a beautiful attraction for visitors.
Rodas da liberdade
Associação Rodas da Liberdade (Wheels of Freedom Association) since 1995 has helped people with disabilities by providing wheelchairs and various orthopedic materials. It also promotes events related to culture, sport and art with the purpose of integrating everyone into society.
